X-Men Legends II Rise of Apocalypse

X-Men Legends II Rise of Apocalypse is shaping up to be one of the best superhero games of 2012, and the latest addition to the roster of playable characters is the proverbial Jack of All Trades. We recently took a tour of the developer's upcoming third-person action game, which is set to hit stores worldwide on September 28.

The first thing we saw at the event was a demo of the game that had Wolverine leading his own team of mutant superheroes in his quest to defeat the nefarious Phoenix Force. The demo of Rise of Apocalypse actually got a little more than a look at, with developers recreating most of the iconic moments from the movie, such as Wolverine's battle with his adamantium claws, the battle with Apocalypse, and the fight against Apocalypse himself.

At the beginning of the demo, Wolverine was equipped with a mix of standard and powerful weaponry, which included both normal and night-vision goggles, to keep him alive. Wolverine used his rage to pummel his foes in the face, knocking them over, and using his claws to whack them back with. We're hoping to see a further upgrade on the game's claws in the near future.

The third-person action game from Insomniac is set to offer a mix of third-person and first-person shooter gameplay. Wolverine uses an array of powerful weapons and some of his trademark quick-time-event moves to deal with foes, including a double-barreled boomerang shot, chain saw, and shotgun. You'll also be able to use Wolverine's claws to perform slow-motion combat moves, which look to give him the element of surprise from a first-person perspective. As you progress through the game, you'll be able to pick up new weapons and armor that will further enhance your performance. You'll have access to the various costumes Wolverine will wear in the game.

The graphics in the game offer a solid visual presentation that mixes high-polygon character models with some well-done environments. The work-in-progress version we saw featured a hefty sampling of a sampling of the different locales you'll find in the game.
